Meet Alana, Our Creative Director

the sartorial project is an Australian sewing-pattern atelier that encourages everyone from beginners to established sewists to create unique, handmade garments for their wardrobes. Alana is the driving force behind the project, bringing over 20 years of expertise in fashion and textiles to her role as Creative Director. A respected educator in higher education, she has spent decades teaching garment design and construction at university level, fostering technical skill, critical thinking, and creative confidence in the next generation of designers.

With a passion for empowering others through the art of garment creation, Alana believes that selecting a sewing pattern is just the beginning of a much deeper journey. Her approach supports sewists - from beginners to seasoned creators, in transforming simple patterns into unique, personalised pieces. Whether perfecting fit, discovering the ideal fabric, or adding a distinctive finish, she encourages each maker to explore their creativity and build their skills through hands-on experimentation.

Under her guidance, the sartorial project, has become a space where makers connect deeply with their craft. With clear, step-by-step instructions and multi-size patterns designed with care, she ensures that everyone has the tools and confidence to bring their vision to life.

Sewing is more than just making clothes; it’s a way to develop a lasting relationship with what you wear, and to embrace the ongoing journey of personal creativity with every stitch.
